CARDINAL ALPHABET TREE Acrylic & Pastel on Canvas | 50" × 50"

Every branch holds something. Every letter means something. Every red bird knows exactly where it is.

Cardinal Alphabet Tree is a painting of extraordinary richness and quiet magic — a bare winter tree rendered in deep grey and silver against a near-black ground, its branches populated entirely by Northern Cardinals in the most vivid, uncompromising red imaginable. They perch with the calm authority of birds who have always lived in this tree and always will. Between and around them, pastel letters drift through the branches in every colour — A, B, C, D — the entire alphabet scattered through the composition like leaves that decided to become language instead.

The cardinals are painted with genuine devotional attention — each one distinct, each one occupying its branch with a different posture, a different angle of head, a different quality of attention. The red against the dark ground is almost shocking in its intensity, the way a cardinal always is against winter bark, against snow, against anything that isn't red. They are impossible to miss. They were never trying to hide.

The letters float amongst them in neon green, turquoise, yellow, pink — the pastel marks loose and luminous against the darker acrylic ground. It is simultaneously a natural history painting, a children's book that grew up, a meditation on language and naming and the extraordinary ordinary fact of a red bird in a bare tree in winter.

Cardinal Alphabet Tree. Everything named. Everything present. Nothing missing.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
