ARCTIC MIRAGE Acrylic & Chalk Pastel on Cradled Birch Wood Panel | 36" × 36"

It is there. And then it might not be.

A mass of ice — or rock, or both, or something that has been both at different points in its very long existence — rises from water of the deepest, most saturated ultramarine imaginable. It catches the light in pale yellow and cream and the faintest blush of something warm, its reflection pooling beneath it in the still water with the kind of perfect, slightly uncanny mirroring that only happens in places of extreme cold and extreme quiet.

Behind it, the deep blue ground is alive — red marks drift across the upper canvas like the memory of something, like lichen on ancient stone, like signals from a frequency most instruments can't detect. They should not be warm against all that blue. They are warm against all that blue. The tension is everything.

The impasto surface gives the ice mass real physical presence — paint built up, layered, the chalk pastel dragged across it leaving traces of atmosphere and light that shift as you move around the panel. On cradled birch wood the colours have a depth and luminosity that canvas cannot replicate. The blue is not just blue. It is every blue simultaneously.

Arctic Mirage is a painting about the things that exist at the edges of the world and the edges of certainty — remote, luminous and absolutely real until the moment they aren't.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
