Self Care is a collaborative painting made in a Brooklyn studio by two painters who met in Paris and have been in conversation ever since — Claire Price and Troy Henriksen, internationally recognised American painter and art world figure, working on the same canvas with the particular creative abandon that only genuine friendship and genuine trust makes possible.

The result is exactly what two serious painters with serious humour and serious things to say about contemporary life produce when they stop being careful — a large, loud, completely alive canvas that is simultaneously funny and dark and visually relentless and oddly, deeply true.

An anatomical tooth dominates the left — cross-sectioned, clinical, rendered with the graphic confidence of a medical diagram that has wandered into the wrong painting and decided to stay. Beside it a figure stands with their back to you against a ground of orange and red fire, a brain floating nearby, the word WOW arriving in a comic book explosion that means everything and nothing simultaneously. SELF CARE is bannered across the lower canvas in the tone of a wellness brand that has looked directly at the void and kept smiling. Just give me some amazing. Too much. D much. ABC. The numbers running down the left side like a checklist for a body that is doing its best.

The painting is Basquiat-adjacent in its visual language — text, anatomy, urban energy, the body as subject and site simultaneously — filtered through two painters who lived in Paris and ended up in Brooklyn and find the whole thing genuinely, darkly hilarious.

The collaboration is documented in studio video footage of both artists working on the canvas together — available to the purchasing collector on request.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
