ZEN DOLL Acrylic & Collage on Wood Panel | 9" × 12" | 2024 Ready-Made Series | Custom Framed

Sweet. Innocent. With a hard edge that was always there if you looked properly.

Zen Doll is a work from the Ready-Made Series — an ongoing body of three-dimensional paintings constructed from found and vintage objects that arrive already carrying history, already worn by the world, already meaning something before the artist touches them. The job is not to invent. The job is to listen to what the objects already know and arrange them into a truth they couldn't tell separately.

This one arrived in pieces. A chrome M from a RAM vehicle, found on the side of a road — already a letter, already a relic of something mechanical and discarded. A vintage doll's head, her blue eyes wide with the particular blankness of mass-produced innocence, her face marked with Inuit face tattoos drawn by hand — ancient ceremonial marks on a plastic face, the oldest human tradition of marking the body meeting the most synthetic possible surface. Dove wings collaged behind her, painted with the careful attention of a natural history illustrator — the universal symbol of peace and the divine messenger, spreading above a face that has been claimed by something older and stranger than either.

The letters spell ZEN. The paint drips cobalt blue below them like tears or like rain or like something that has been held in for a long time and finally released. The whole thing sits against a ground of deep, heavily textured black acrylic — the texture of it almost aggressive, the impasto marks surrounding the objects like a force field or a consecration.

Gothic punk aesthetic. The sweetness is real. The hard edge is also real. Both are true simultaneously. This is the Ready-Made Series exactly as it was always meant to be.

✨ About the Ready-Made Series

Inspired by the Dadaist ready-made tradition of Duchamp — elevated, personalised and filtered through a completely contemporary sensibility. Every work in the series is constructed from found and vintage objects, each one carrying its own history into the new context the artist creates for it. No two works share materials. No two works share meaning. Each is completely, irreducibly itself.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
