Goddess Rising is a monumental work — in scale, in ambition, in the weight of what it is trying to say and the confidence with which it says it. A winged female figure rises from a ground of deep red, arms raised above her head supporting a sphere of deep blue water — the earth, the moon, a world that needs holding — while around her the cosmos explodes outward in rays of rainbow light, planets orbiting in the dark, Jupiter and Saturn and smaller worlds suspended in the black of space that is simultaneously vast and completely intimate.

The figure is painted with the warm, luminous quality that the best figurative painting achieves when it stops being careful — the body rendered in deep ochre and orange, outlined in neon pink that vibrates against the dark, the wings spreading in white that catches every colour around it and gives it back transformed.
