Buck's Bar is painted from one of the great scenes in American musical theatre — the dance hall hostesses of Sweet Charity lined up at the bar at the Fan-Dango Ballroom, waiting, bored, magnificent. Bob Fosse's choreography frozen in paint. The red dress. The platinum blonde. The brunette with the expression of someone who has heard every line ever delivered by every man who ever walked through that door and has formed her opinions accordingly.

They are not performing for you. They are simply there — existing with the particular, practiced composure of women who have learned to wait with style. The red dress commands the left of the canvas with the authority of someone who arrived first and claimed the best seat. The others arrange themselves along the bar in various states of magnificent disengagement — earrings catching the light, hair architecturally committed, the whole tableau painted with the warm, affectionate energy of someone who loves these women and this scene and this song unreservedly.

The painting has the quality of a memory of a film you love — slightly heightened, slightly golden, the colours more saturated than reality because that is how the things we love actually look in the mind's eye. Fosse's genius was making the ordinary extraordinary through pure style. This painting does the same thing with paint.

Exhibited at Maison 10, Manhattan, 2024 — where it held its own in the company of the most considered objects in one of New York's most celebrated design destinations.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
