DEAD ROCK STARS
36 × 48 in — Acrylic & Collage on Canvas
2016 — From the Faceless Faces Series
Dead Rock Stars is part of Claire Price’s ongoing Faceless Faces series — a body of work exploring identity, fame, and the way cultural icons live on beyond the individual self. Recognizable silhouettes of legendary musicians emerge through bold color fields and graphic collage, their features deliberately obscured to shift focus from the person to the myth.
Bowie, Elvis, Lennon, Freddie and other figures of rock mythology appear as fragmented archetypes — symbols of influence rather than portraits. By masking the faces, the work invites viewers to confront how celebrity becomes collective memory, transforming individual identity into shared cultural language.
Layered acrylic paint and collage create a vibrant, rhythmic surface that feels both celebratory and reflective, balancing pop energy with conceptual depth. The painting functions as a visual chorus — a gathering of voices that continue to shape music, rebellion, and artistic legacy long after the spotlight fades.
