FEEDING THE DUCKS Acrylic on Canvas | 30" × 40"
She has her back to us. The ducks do not.
There is something quietly cinematic about Feeding the Ducks — the pale, washed-out stillness of a winter morning, a figure in a dark coat and heels standing in a yard that feels half-remembered, the bare tree reaching across the white sky like a signature. The ducks press forward in a crowd of dark feathers and purpose, indifferent to the cold, indifferent to everything except what comes next.
The palette is almost entirely stripped back — whites, pale pinks, the blue-grey of shadow on snow — punctuated by the deep navy and black of the figure and her birds. It has the quality of a photograph found in a drawer. Someone's grandmother, perhaps. Someone's childhood. Someone's yard on a morning that felt ordinary at the time and significant ever after.
Feeding the Ducks is understated in the best possible way. A painting that rewards the person who stops in front of it rather than the one who walks quickly past. Melancholic without being sad. Quiet without being empty. The kind of work that fits a room the way a good book fits an afternoon.
