That moment just after dark when the garden starts to light itself.

Fireflies captures the particular magic of a warm night alive with moving light — dozens of luminous dots suspended against a deep ground of midnight navy, indigo and cobalt, the edges dissolving into aquamarine and teal as if the darkness itself is faintly illuminated from somewhere beyond the frame.

The dots are not stars. They are too close, too warm, too randomly perfect for that. They move — or they seem to. The eye travels across the surface finding clusters and constellations that weren't there a moment ago, individual points of cream and gold that pulse with the quiet insistence of something living rather than something burning millions of miles away.

This is one of those paintings that changes with the light. In daylight it is rich and jewel-toned — deep blues and teals with scattered light. In the evening, in lamplight, it becomes something else entirely. Something you might want to sit in front of for a while without saying anything.

Joyful and meditative in equal measure. The kind of abstract that doesn't ask you to think — only to feel.
