A generous arrangement of mimosa blossom, cream peonies and a single blowsy pink bloom sits in a dark ceramic vessel on a white plinth — painted against a ground of soft silver-grey that makes every warm yellow and gold in the bouquet vibrate with quiet intensity. The composition is classical and unhurried. A still life in the truest sense — still, life.
The mimosa itself is painted with the kind of patient, loving attention it deserves — hundreds of tiny golden spheres scattered through the arrangement like confetti or sunlight or both, the cream peonies nestled amongst them with their own soft luminosity, that single pink bloom arriving like a beautiful surprise at a party that was already going very well.
