Norfolk Pine fills the panel with the particular, exuberant density of a tree that has never once considered restraint — branches layering upon branches, fronds pressing against the picture plane with the confidence of something that has been growing for longer than anyone has been watching and intends to keep going. The trunk rises in deep purple-brown at the centre, the bark painted with the kind of close, loving attention that transforms wood into something almost architectural — the structure beneath all that green, the thing that holds it all up.

Against the deep forest interior, glimpsed between branches, a warm orange glow — sunset, or something burning gently beyond the tree line, or simply the particular light that filters through a Norfolk Pine canopy in the late afternoon and turns everything it touches briefly, perfectly golden.

Norfolk Pine is presented in a custom 2" deep black floater frame that gives the work a clean, dramatic gallery presence. The frame sustained a minor dent during its time exhibited at Maison 10 and is sold as is — a small mark of a life lived in the world, which seems entirely appropriate for a painting about a tree.
