CYNTHIA BY THE SEA Acrylic & R&F Oil Stick on Canvas | 48" × 56" | 2026

She has her face to the sun. She is not thinking about you.

Cynthia by the Sea is a painting about a particular kind of joy — uncomplicated, physical, completely present. Cynthia reclines against a ground of deep cobalt and teal, her red swimsuit painted with the rich, waxy luminosity that only R&F oil stick delivers, the colour saturated and warm against the cool blues and greens of sea and sky surrounding her. Her head is thrown back. Her eyes are closed. Whatever is happening in the world behind her — the lighthouse standing its patient watch, the vegetation moving in a wind she has stopped noticing — she is elsewhere entirely. She is in the sun.

The beach ball sits to her left in primary colours — red, yellow, green, blue — a perfect circle of pure uncomplicated pleasure that has been in paintings since Seurat and never once lost its meaning. Play. Summer. The radical act of doing nothing important very well.

The surface is extraordinary — R&F oil stick worked into acrylic gives the figure a depth and warmth that the surrounding seascape cannot quite match, which is entirely the point. Cynthia glows. Everything else is simply the world she has temporarily escaped from.

Painted in 2026 at significant scale, Cynthia by the Sea is a monumental celebration of the small, perfect moment. The afternoon that asks nothing. The sun on the face of someone who has decided, at least for now, that this is enough.

It is enough.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
