Mana Tiki is a painting of a hei-tiki — the carved ancestral figure of Māori tradition, one of the most ancient and potent symbols of the Pacific — rendered in deep forest green and white against a ground of burnished gold and red that pulses with the energy of something ceremonial and completely alive. The chevron pattern behind the figure is painted in gold leaf and crimson — the meeting of traditional geometric patterning and raw painterly mark — the kind of ground that makes the green figure in front of it feel like it is emerging from the earth rather than sitting on a surface.
