SCAREDY CAT Acrylic on Wood Panel | 11" × 14" | 2022 Custom Framed in 2" Deep Black Wood Frame

Arched. Furious. Magnificent.

Scaredy Cat is a black cat at maximum — back arched, fur raised, green eyes blazing, the full Halloween silhouette rendered in impasto acrylic with the kind of devoted, affectionate attention that only someone who genuinely loves cats can bring to the subject. The alarm is completely authentic. Whatever has frightened this cat has made a serious miscalculation.

Behind and around it the background is pure joy — a repeating pattern of red and orange diamond shapes on aqua, painted with the flat, graphic confidence of a tile or a textile or a folk art tradition that understood long before anyone else that pattern and colour are their own kind of magic. The black cat against the patterned ground creates a collision that is simultaneously funny and visually extraordinary — the domestic and the decorative, the alarmed and the ornamental, all present at once.

The green eyes are the painting. Two small points of vivid, living colour in all that black — the cat is terrified and also absolutely, undeniably, completely itself.

Scaredy Cat is one of those paintings that makes everyone who sees it smile before they know why — and then look more carefully and find that it is doing considerably more than it first appeared. Which is, of course, also exactly what cats do.

FAQ

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We offer free shipping on most works, with shipping costs (when applicable) never exceeding 10% of the piece's price. Large canvases ship rolled in a professional tube; oversized works requiring special packaging may be an exception, and we're happy to provide a quote. International collectors are responsible for any duties and taxes upon arrival.

Can I receive my painting already stretched and framed?

Large works ship rolled by default for safety in transit. If you'd prefer your piece delivered already on stretcher bars, contact us before purchasing for a separate shipping quote at your own expense. If you're interested in framing, reach out to claire@clairepriceartist.com to discuss your vision — we're happy to provide quotes and mockups to help you visualize the finished piece.

What if I'm not happy with my purchase?

Returns are accepted within 30 days of receiving the work. Choosing an artwork is a deeply personal experience, and we'll do our best to help place the right piece in your home — if something isn't right, contact us immediately and we'll try to facilitate an exchange or, if necessary, a refund. For returns, the client is responsible for the cost of shipping and insuring the piece back to us; once it arrives safely, a full refund is issued minus shipping and related expenses.

Is each piece truly one of a kind?

Yes — every original is a unique, one-of-one work, signed by the artist on the front and/or back, and shipped with a certificate of authenticity establishing provenance. The artist retains all copyright to the image, and reserves the right to reproduce it as prints or use it in future projects, at her discretion.

Do you take custom commissions?

Occasionally, by inquiry. Commission pricing is calculated at $4.50 per square inch, with a 50% non-refundable deposit required to begin. Contact us to discuss your piece and confirm availability.
